How long have you had a plot at Thingwall Road Allotment Association for?

I’ve been here about 9 years and I’ve had 2 plots on this site.

What’s your favourite time of day to visit the plot?

Favourite time of day would have to be mornings when it’s nice and quiet.

What is your growing style?

I grow from seed mostly but have bought plug plants (nothing wrong with that). No tricks or rules about where I plant either.

Which is your favourite fruit or veg to grow and why?

We grow a lot of toms because I make pasta sauces for over winter. Also first early spuds and aubergines.

What has been the biggest challenge that you’ve faced so far?

The biggest challenge was turning my plot from a field into a workable plot – this is still ongoing.

What has been your biggest allotment triumph so far?

Getting a polytunnel!

What would you say to someone who is considering getting an allotment?

It’s hardworking, so just do a small section at a time. It’s very rewarding.

Do you have a favourite allotment story or memory at TRAA to share?

We once turned up only to find a swarm of bees on our rose bush. And I have good memories of a Halloween party that we held in the main car park. It went down very well and there must have been 70 plus plot holders who came together for the party.
